Police respond to reports of a man with a gun near Lafayette Christian Academy


Lafayette, LA – At around 7:48 am officers with Lafayette Police Department responded to the 200 block of Couret Drive in reference to reports of a man with a gun. 


Due to the incident being in close proximity to Lafayette Christian Academy the school was placed on lockdown. 


During investigation it was determined that the victim stopped momentarily in Moore Park when her vehicle was approached by an unknown suspect carrying a rifle.  The victim was asked for an undisclosed amount of money, at which time the victim advised she did not have any and the suspect fled in an unknown direction into the park. 


Witnesses on scene were able to direct officers on the suspects location, which lead to his apprehension.


The suspect, Rasheed Cosby, 25 year old of Lafayette, LA, was apprehended shortly after the incident, arrested and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on one count of armed robbery, attempted armed robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm in a firearm free zone.
