Police arrest man in connection to discovery of human remains in Rayne

ACADIA PARISH, LA (EVEN NEWS)- Police have made an arrest in connection to the discovery of human remains on May 18 and May 23; click here to read the original story.

On May 25, 2023, at 4:25 PM, Russell James Richard, 44, of Rayne, was taken into custody on the arrest warrant for 2 counts of illegal possession of human remains in Lafayette Parish.

Richard will be transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail, pending a $20,000 bond set by Commissioner Andre Doguet.

A source tells EVEN News that Richard claims that he "stumbled upon" the remains at the graveyard near Roberts Cove Rd, and brought them to the church to be "blessed" and "properly reburied."
