Multiple agencies on the scene of a 18-wheeler accident/leak in Mire/Duson

MIRE, LA (EVEN News) - The eastbound exit ramp at the Duson/Mire exit (Mile Marker 92) of 1-10 is closed due to a 18-wheeler accident/leak.

Just after 8am on Monday morning, an 18 wheeler overturned on the exit ramp - causing the truck to leak Acrylic Acid.

Acute exposure to acrylic acid can cause redness, swelling, and tearing of the eyes, runny nose, scratchy throat, coughing, and difficult breathing.

Duson Police says that the road is closed and likely to be closed for up to 8 hours as crews work the scene.

Duson Police and Duson Fire are working with Lafayette Fire Hazardous Materials Unit and Louisiana State Police Haz Mat Unit to coordinate a safe transfer of the material and containment of the spill. The driver of the truck has been transported to Lafayette General Oschner Hospital for treatment of non life threatening but serious injuries by Acadian Ambulance Medics.

Both lanes of I-10 remain open; the exit ramp is the only reported closure.
