Domestic disturbance leads to SWAT callout and a major crash in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (ENN) – At around 2:37pm, Lafayette Police Department responded to 100 block of Shady Ridge Lane in reference to a domestic disturbance involving weapons in progress.

Upon arrival, officers met with two of the victims in the area of which the dispatched call had originated. Through investigation, it was learned that the suspect, Drevian Dugas, 22, of Lafayette, was in possession of a rifle. Police say that another victim was still with him at that time. 

Based on the information provided by the victims, it was determined that Lafayette Police that SWAT was needed and they were subsequently deployed. While attempting to interdict Dugas' vehicle in the 100 block of New Center Drive, an officer-involved shooting occurred.


Following the above altercation, Dugas quickly left the area in his vehicle with the victim still inside with him. The suspect began driving erratically as officers pursued him.  As a result of his erratic driving, Dugas struck a vehicle in the 2300 block of Kaliste Road at the intersection of Lake Farm Road causing it to overturn.  Dugas' vehicle then slid into oncoming traffic where it struck a second vehicle.  To ensure the safety of other innocent drivers, Dugas' vehicle was pinned in by an LPD officers’ unit.


As a result of these incidents, the victim inside of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.  The driver and the passenger of the first vehicle struck by the suspect’s vehicle was transported for treatment of moderate injuries. Dugas, the suspect, was later taken into custody and is currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital for his injuries.

LPD Investigators are on scene and actively working the incident that led up to the officer-involved shooting and crash. Updates are soon to come.
