Body found in a pond in Rayne: police

RAYNE, La. (ENN) — A body was discovered Tuesday evening in a pond near the westbound I-10 off-ramp in Rayne, prompting an active investigation by local authorities.

According to Rayne Police, the call came in around 7:20 p.m. on July 8, 2025, after a fisherman reported seeing what appeared to be a body floating in the water.

Officers and detectives from the Rayne Police Department responded to the scene, with assistance from the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Together, the agencies worked to recover the body from the pond.

Details surrounding the discovery remain limited, and the identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
