Two dead after fishing barge capsizes on Toledo Bend Lake on Tuesday

SABINE PARISH, La. (ENN) — Shortly before noon on Tuesday, Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a boating incident.

According to police, a fishing barge capsized in the Pirates Cove area of Toledo Bend Lake. There were six people on the barge at the time, four swam to safety, and 2 drowned. Police say the bodies were located and recovered.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) is the lead investigator of the incident and will release more details soon.

Sabine Parish Sheriff Deputies, LDWF Agents, North Sabine Fire District, South Sabine Fire District, and Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Deputies were involved in the recovery efforts.
