State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Lafayette


LAFAYETTE, La (ENN) -- Louisiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the 1200 block of Northeast Evangeline Thruway on early Monday morning.


Police say that one subject was shot and transported to a hospital for treatment. No officers were harmed during this incident.


Lafayette Police Officers first arrived on scene to a shooting which had occurred around 10:50pm on Sunday night inside of a local establishment, in which at least one person was shot inside the establishment by a suspect.


LPD Officers arrived on scene and then proceeded to conduct a safety sweep of the immediate area which consisted of a crowd of fleeing bystanders. Officers then encountered an armed individual, who was discharging a firearm in the immediate area.


As a result of the individual’s actions, an LPD Officer was forced to engage the subject and discharged their firearm at the subject.


Lafayette Police requested State Police Investigators assistance in working to process the scene and gather further information. Officials say more information will be provided when available.
