16-year-old arrested in connection with Rayne shooting on New Year’s Eve

RAYNE, La (EVEN) - Rayne Police responded to a shooting on Sunday evening around 11pm.


The shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Lyman Avenue. Police found Harry L Richard Jr., 36, of Rayne, with several critical gunshot wounds in his upper body. He was taken to Oshner Acadia General Hospital in Crowley where he later died.



This afternoon, the Rayne and Scott Police Departments executed a search warrant in the 900 block of Provost St related to the shooting. Officers located and arrested Damyrion Devontae Williams, 16, for second-degree murder and armed robbery.


Williams has been tried as an adult and has been booked into the APSO Jail with a $500,000 bond.


Earlier this year, St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office and Rayne PD executed a search warrant in Opelousas, where they apprehended Tay'vion Williams, 19, of Lafayette, for his alleged involvement in the shooting.



Williams will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail and will be transferred to Acadia Parish.
