LAFAYETTE PARISH, LA (EVEN NEWS)– Police responded to reports of a hit and run crash involving major injuries on the 1300 block West Willow Street around 8:30 on Thursday evening. Police say there is one woman dead.
Initial investigation suggests that a female pedestrian was walking westbound on the 1300 block of West Willow Street, when she was struck by an unknown white truck, also traveling westbound on West Willow Street. The unknown suspect vehicle continued westbound on West Willow Street, without stopping, fleeing the crash scene and headed toward Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
The Lafayette Police Department Traffic Unit is currently on scene and is conducting a hit and run traffic fatality investigation. Investigators are attempting to identify the female victim, as well as the suspect involved. Anyone that may have witnessed the incident or have any potential information is urged to contact the Lafayette Police Department or Lafayette CRIMESTOPPERS at 337-232-TIPS. Callers can and will remain anonymous.
Currently, West Willow Street is closed from Calhoun Court to Aster Street. Motorists are urged to take an alternate route and avoid this area. An update will be provided when the roadway has been reopened and the identity of the female victim is confirmed.
