On August 18, 2023, at approximately 5:08 PM, officers from the Rayne Police Department responded to a call-for-service regarding a shooting in-progress at the Family Dollar, located at 815 The Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers found Thomas Blake Touchet, aged 59, unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Touchet succumbed to his injuries en route to Oschner Acadian General Hospital.
Officers arrested Vanessa Sarver, aged 60, of the 600 block of 7th St, Rayne. Sarver has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.
SEPERATE SHOOTING: Another shooting took place around 5:49 PM on Friday, August 18, 2023. Police were notified of a shooting on the corner of 4th Street and West Bernard Street. One victim was transported to Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition. Rayne Police have a suspect in custody at this time for that shooting as well.
