One dead, other injured, in fatal crash in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, LA (EVEN NEWS) – One person has died as a result of a major crash in Lafayette on Wednesday morning. Abdul Shamsuddin, 82, of Youngsville, died in the crash.

The crash occurred in the 4600 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway involving one vehicle. Shamsuddin was traveling North on the 4600 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway when he hit the curb and went off the roadway on the East side. He then backed onto Ambassador Caffery Parkway and proceeded South, then crossing both southbound lanes and struck the curb on the West side of the roadway. After striking the curb, he traveled off the road and struck a tree before coming to a stop.


Shamsuddin, the passenger, who was unrestrained in the back seat, was transported to Ochsner’s Lafayette General Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries. The driver was transported to Ochsner’s Lafayette General Medical Center in stable condition and submitted to a voluntary blood test, in which the results are pending.


At this time, it is believed that the driver suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. The traffic crash is currently being investigated by Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Investigators.
