Several school districts and colleges across the Acadiana region have announced closures for Friday, January 26, due to significant winter weather damage, including water outages and unsafe conditions.

School Districts Closed:

  • Acadia Parish Schools will be closed. District officials say the decision wasn’t made lightly and it was made to give time for the road conditions to improve.

  • Evangeline Parish: Schools will be closed. However, administrators, school secretaries, custodians, and 12-month employees at district offices are required to report to work from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Lafayette Parish: All schools will be closed due to water issues and other winter storm-related problems.

  • St. Landry Parish: Schools will remain closed. Twelve-month employees are asked to report to work from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., weather permitting.

  • St. Martin Parish: Schools are closed as winter weather has caused disruptions.

  • Vermilion Parish: Schools are also closed as the district deals with weather-related damage.

The following charter schools are also affected by the winter weather and will not be open on Friday:

  • Acadiana Renaissance Charter Academy K-12 in Youngsville

  • Lafayette Christian Academy

  • Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy

  • St. Landry Charter School

  • Vermilion Charter Academy

Colleges Closing Friday:

  • LSU Eunice, including its campuses in Lafayette and Alexandria, will remain closed due to the ongoing winter weather impacts.

  • University of Louisiana at Lafayette will transition to remote learning on Friday as campuses deal with the aftermath of the winter storm.

Officials are continuing to monitor conditions, and further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
