Lafayette carjacking leads to pursuit through Lafayette and Acadia parishes



UPDATE: Police say Crowley Police along with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office located the stolen vehicle and suspects again on Tuesday night.


The suspects once again refused to stop when officers attempted to do a traffic stop and fled. The suspect driver then hit a police unit then went off the roadway and fled on foot.


Police were able to apprehend one of the suspects, which was a male juvenile, and a semi-automatic rifle that was found in the stolen vehicle.


LAFAYETTE, La. (ENN) - Lafayette Police are investigating a carjacking that occurred in Lafayette on Tuesday evening.


The incident happened in the 600 block of Stevenson Street around 9:00pm. Police say a male victim returned to his residence and after exiting his vehicle, he was approached by 2 male suspected that were brandishing firearms.


The suspects threatened to shoot the victim and forcefully took his keys, the report says. They then entered the vehicle and fled the scene. Lafayette Police, assisted by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, were able to locate the vehicle within the city. Officers confirmed that it was the vehicle then attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to yield and fled at a high speed, leading to a pursuit.


The pursuit entered Acadia Parish and officials say that the pursuit was "terminated" for the safety of local residents and motoring public.
