
ST. MARY PARISH, La - Superintendent Teresa Bagwell announced on Wednesday that she has appointed an Interim Superintendent.
Dr. Rachael Sanders has been appointed Interim Superintendent, a release states.
"Dr. Sanders has considerable experience in leading and supporting schools as they pursue academic gains," Dr. Bagwell stated. "She has dedicated her career in education to St. Mary Parish Schools and will continue to provide guidance and supervision for the district as the school year resumes into the spring semester."
Dr. Bagwell gave notice to the St. Mary Parish School Board know last fall of her plan to not seek a contract extension. She also recently took medical leave, described by the district as "unanticipated" that began Thursday. Her contract doesn't expire until June.
"Dr. Sanders is fully abreast of all school board operations and will provide the school system with knowledgeable and experienced leadership throughout this period," the release stated further.
The current assistant superintendent, Rachael Sanders, now Interim Superintendent, is a former school principal and district instructional leader, according to the release.
