Crowley school placed on lockdown Tuesday morning

Tuesday morning, Crowley Middle School was placed on lockdown after a person carrying a firearm was seen close to the school.

According to Acadia Parish School System Superintendent Scott Richard, an anonymous tip was sent in about a person being observed walking near the campus carrying a gun. The tip was received just as students were arriving for class. The local police and the school put the building on lockdown right away.

There was no gun on campus, according to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, and the individual who was apprehended was not a student.

According to Broussard, the individual was seen carrying a BB gun near the schoolwhile being questioned by police at around 9 a.m.

School has resumed after the campus was cleared by police and the lockdown was lifted. This case remains under investigation.
