‘He gave this city everything’: Chief honors Lt. Noochie Credeur after tragic line-of-duty death

RAYNE, La. (EVEN) -- The Rayne Police Department is mourning the loss of Lieutenant Allen “Noochie” Credeur, 47, who was fatally shot during a law enforcement operation on Monday, May 5, 2025.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:27 PM on East Harrop Street near North Chavis Street. Officers were executing a search warrant related to a recent stabbing incident when Lt. Credeur was accidentally struck by friendly fire. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene .
Lt. Credeur began his law enforcement career as a reserve officer with the Rayne Police Department in December 2003 and transitioned to full-time in 2005. In 2014, he took on the role of D.A.R.E. officer, focusing on educating and mentoring the youth of the community. He was also actively involved in local youth athletics, dedicating countless hours to coaching and mentoring.
“He had a special way of connecting with people—especially young people—and was truly invested in making Rayne a safer, stronger place to live,” said Chief Carroll Stelly.
Lt. Credeur is survived by his fiancée, Danielle Demette, and his brother, Sgt. Joseph Credeur. The department has requested that the public keep his family, colleagues, and fellow officers in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
An investigation is underway, with the Rayne Police Department cooperating fully with the Louisiana State Police to examine the circumstances of this tragic event. Details regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services will be provided as soon as they are finalized.
