Local school districts dismissing early due to incoming severe weather

Few school districts have already decided to dismiss early today, Wednesday, October 27, due to the severe weather Acadiana is expecting to occur in the afternoon.

Below is a list of districts dismissing early:

Lafayette Parish

Lafayette Parish School System confirmed that they will remain open for the duration of the day. ”Based on the latest weather reports, LPSS schools will remain open and follow regular dismissal times. After-school care will remain open. Schools will communicate to parents regarding extracurricular activities. Please expect delays in buses. Any effort to dismiss early at this point could potentially put our bus routes on the roads during severe weather conditions. In the event that we need to delay any bus routes, parents will be notified. As always, if you have concerns regarding your situation and the weather, you may choose to check your student out of school. Your child will receive an excused absence.“

St. Landry Parish

St. Landry Charter School in Opelousas is dismissing early today at 11a.

Iberia Parish

All of Iberia Parish schools will dismiss early today. Middle and high schools will dismiss at 12pm, while elementary students will dismiss at 12:45pm. Student care services will be closed as well.

Vermilion Parish

Vermilion Parish School Board released a statement regarding the incoming severe weather. “Under advisement from NWS and OEP, it looks like the weather is projected to come in possibly around 1pm and move quickly through the area. Based on this information, we are planning to keep our students in school as the safest option. Any effort to dismiss early at this point would put our elementary routes on the road in the middle of the weather. If for some reason we have to delay routes, you will receive a text from the school or central office.”
