MIRE, La (Acadia Parish)— Multiple people contacted EVEN News on Friday morning with reports of heavy fog, and smoky conditions making it impossible for drivers to have sight of the road and surrounding areas.

According to multiple messages and social media posts, a heavy smoke presence mixed with the already substantial fog conditions forced drivers to pull-off road near many roadways in Mire, including Heritage Road, Grand Praire Road, Charlie Arceneaux Road, and more.

Around 3am early Friday morning, Mire Volunteer Fire Department responded to a dispatch for a fire investigation, according to a comment made by the volunteer department. The source of the fire was, in fact, a sugar-cane crop field fire. The smoke from the fire seemed to mix with the heavy fog conditions, making it “nearly impossible” for drivers on the road to see.

MVFD escorted many people who were stuck on the side of roadways after many drivers pulled off road.

Mire community members are thankful for the assistance from their local volunteer fire department. One of our viewers reached out and stated how “extremely thankful” they were for the assistance from MVFD.

Conditions on the road are now safe with clear conditions.
