Acadia Parish School Board approves adjustments to COVID-19 exposure protocols

ACADIA PARISH, LA— The Acadia Parish School Board has recently approved new adjustments to their COVID-19 exposure protocol.

The new guidelines apply only if the individual identified as a close contact is not symptomatic. Students or employees that come in close contact at school or a school event that remain asymptomatic will have the option of quarantining at home or returning to school, only if they wear a mask indoors for 5 days from the last date of contact. As usual, after a student comes into contact with a COVID-19 positive individual, the parent/guardian will be notified that their child was identified as a close contact in a school setting. Parents/guardians will then be asked to complete a form that indicates

their option upon being contacted by the school. Parents/guardians will be asked to monitor the student for symptoms during the quarantine period, and, the school will also monitor students for symptoms. The adjustment in quarantining procedures also applies to employees. Symptomatic

students and employees will need to follow guidelines for symptomatic individuals (stay home until

symptoms improve, seek advice from healthcare provider, etc.)

Quarantine guidelines for a student/employee being in close contact to an individual in a household

will continue to follow existing Louisiana Department of Health guidelines, which requires the individual to quarantine away from school for 5 days from day 0, monitor for symptoms, seek advice from healthcare provider, etc. and

possibly return to school and/or sports on Day 6 if asymptomatic.

The guidelines for students or employees who come into close contact during contact sports who are asymptomatic requires the individual to quarantine for 5 days. That only goes for individuals who actually participate in competition.

The option to adjust quarantine protocol does not apply to a positive COVID-19 case. If a student/employee develops symptoms or tests positive, they must isolate until they recover and are no longer infected.

The school system reminds everyone that free testing is available at the Acadia Parish Health Unit from 8 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and, at local Walgreens in Crowley and Rayne by appointment only. Also, these protocols are subject to change as needed given the ever-changing impact of COVID-19.
