Rayne officer, family killed in single-vehicle crash in Lyons Point

RAYNE, La. (ENN) — A Rayne Police officer was killed, along with his fiancé and child, in a fatal single-vehicle crash.

According to a release, Detective Javonta Flugence was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Friday that tragically killed him, his fiance, Amber Davy, and 2 year-old daughter, Caroline.

The crash occurred on Friday around 5:00 p.m. on LA Hwy 13 near Bluefish Road in Lyons Point.

Police say that Flugence and his family were traveling in south on LA Hwy 13 in a 2003 Toyota 4Runner.

For reasons still under investigation, the Toyota veered off the roadway to the right and entered a ditch before striking a culvert, becoming airborne, and overturning onto its roof.

Due to all 3 of the occupants being unrestrained and partially ejected, State Police are continuing to investigate to determine who was driving at the time of the crash.

"Today, we lost one of our dedicated detectives," Chief Carroll Stelly stated. "This loss is beyond words, and our department is grieving deeply."

Detective Flugence was a beloved member of the department and his community of Rayne. Many have already expressed their grief and condolences, alongside of immense gratitude for his service to the city of Rayne.

“Please keep their family, friends, and all who knew and loved them in your thoughts and prayers,” Chief Stelly continued. “We will stand together as we navigate this difficult time.”
