Rayne High School was placed on lockdown earlier today after being alerted of a student possessing a weapon on campus.
According to the message sent out by the school, the entire school was placed on "soft lockdown" while an investigation was conducted. The weapon was seized without any incident occurring. Rayne Police Department did respond to the scene to assist.
"The individual possessing the weapon will be discipline in accordance with school board policy, and state law," Superintendent Scott Richard said.
There was NO imminent threat to any students or school staff, and normal operations will resume.
